"Quilter's Doubt" - is it a thing?

I have a rough plan in my head - not a great start.
So I am half way through cutting fabric and may have been a bit sloppy - also not a good start.
Now I'm starting to doubt the colour choice of one of the fabrics - maybe the shade is a bit too grey.
Over analysing it - also not a good thing.
One last piece to cut out and it has taken hours.
I have been boiling and re-boiling the kettle, walking around in circles, thinking, walking away and re-thinking, measuring and re-measuring.
I am even eating the cooking chocolate!

Is quilter's doubt a thing or is it just procrastination in disguise ??

I need to just get on with it!

It has been a while but it is time - Quilt No. 8

It has been a long time between quilts but number 8 is in my head.
It has been bouncing around in there for some time.
It has had some colour and design changes whilst bouncing around in there over the last couple of months but today is the day to stop bouncing and start doing.
I ventured to a lovely Perth quilt shop, calico and ivy, and as I walked down the street with my bounty I realised that my gift voucher was still in my handbag, unused - oops.
My husband may think this is just a cunning plan to go back there again ... and he maybe right.
I loved it in there.
There is something warm and lovely about being in a quilt fabric shop.
I met some lovely ladies who travelled for 5 hours to Perth and buy fabric every visit.  We laughed about our fabric stashes and all bought some more.

Here is the collection purchased for quilt number 8.
They do look a little more blue in real life.

The plan at this point (in my head, ) is a very plain, fat striped number with circular hand quilting in white.
This could change as the idea bouncing continues.
I will keep you posted ...

Quilt Number 7 - DONE!

A quilt for the little man that entered the world in the back of an ambulance in his parent's driveway - almost 18 months ago.

Finished at last.

Being delivered this weekend - complete with it's own little ambulance and racing cars on the back.

Found it!

It was going to be a young lady's summer dress.

But as I was about to cut it I had a "bingo!" moment.

Good-bye purple and hello pink.

I love it. Just need to make the time to get it all together.

Showed the daughters - squeals of delight from one and a half smile and a shrug from the other. Yep, it's the half smile's quilt.

Quilt number 4 - done

All finished and waiting to be delivered to the most scrumptious little nephew.

I popped into Amitie on Thursday intending to buy plain blue for the binding but Jenny convinced me to try something else. After pulling out a couple she found the blue checks and I looked at her in disbelief. She folded it over on the bias and "bingo!" it was perfect. I nearly fainted when she said suggested doing the binding on the bias but it was so simple (with her tips) and really effective. - Thanks Jenny & Judy, you're awesome!

And because it was a Thursday at Amitie, this clever cookie just happened to be there teaching a class.

Now what will I do for number 5 ???

(I finished it 2 days ago and am a bit lost without one to play with - is this the begining of a quilting addiction .......)

Quilt Number 4

Hopefully it is on his cot before he's riding his own bike!

My 2 week old nephew is just beautiful! And yes, they are tractors on his suit - his Pop would be proud!

I just want to cuddle him all day! No, I'm not clucky - I have a ferocious, strong willed and VERY determined 4 yr old to bring me back to reality. My baby shop is well and truly shut!

Quilts For Queensland

Quilt number 3 is finished and about to be popped in the post to Corrie who the quilting queen that is organising the whole Quilts for Queensland thingy.

I hope it makes someone smile!

I'm quite liking this quilty stuff. Still making it up as I go along but quite getting into it.

However, if you look closely you'll notice that it's big on the wonk factor (that would be the making it up as I go along thingy) .... SO .... I have put my name down for a quilting course at Amitie in June (yay!).

AND a girlfriend and I are doing a pattern making course in April.

I feel so self indulgent!!

But you'll have to please excuse me, I'm off to search for my brain . I'll be needing it in a couple of months and am not sure where I have left it.

Quilt number 2 - Done and dusted!

It's finished!
The red quilt (that was supposed to be green) is now finished.It was based on Louise's lovely pattern. However, as I have issues with following instructions I had to modify it (after a little mummy tantrum).
I cut out the big squares on the floor in front of the tele (silly, I know) and cut them out the wrong size. Had said tantrum then hurt my brain trying to work out how to make the outside bits fit.I think it works. As I'm still on the quilting planet of "make it up as you go along", it's a bit on the wonky side. But hey, wonk is good - right ?!?!?It's now thrown on the couch when not being dragged around the house by the "Quilt Ninja"The next quilt is cut and ready to go.
A cot quilt for the amazing Corrie to be sent to Queensland flood victims. I hope it looks OK when finished and makes someone smile!!

Remember the red quilt ??

It's still coming together.

Almost there.

Even tried a bit of machine quilting this time with my newly purchased walking foot - what a clever person to have invented that!

Quilting purests may "tut-tut" the mixing of hand and machine quilting - are there rules for this stuff? I'm still making it up as I go along. (might even do a class this year .....)

Have to finish it soon as I have a plan for the next one....will keep you posted!

My new friend - the red quilt

It's a new friendship.
We're still at the polite, get to know you stage and probably both wondering if we're going to "click".

We haven't seen each other very often as other things "come up" and our get togethers have been getting postponed. Maybe we can make some time this weekend .....

Another baby, another throw...

(It's becoming a predictable "welcome to the world" present as this is number 4, but I do like them.)

Actually made something for me - well, for the table which is close isn't it ?? Embroidery design is from the fabulous Prints Charming book.

I give it a week before it's drawn on, glittered on, pasted to something or covered in a foreign sticky foodlike substance.

Yay for spring!

Quilt number 1 DONE!

I've stitched the last stitch and handed it over to my little man. He loves it - phew! I'm a little sad to see it go.
It's been fun.
Quilt 1 and I have been a couch couple since February. We've laughed, cried and stayed up late. We've grown close.

We've bonded. I think I miss you, Quilt 1.

Amitie had a sale on Friday and I met Quilt 2.

I was searching for something green and came home with this.

I hope we'll be friends.

Will keep you posted.

A great quilt update

It's been a while so thought I might show you where I'm at.

Sooooo many tiny stitches .... although probably not tiny by real quilter's standards - more of large and clumsy type of stitching.

The Roald Dahl/Quentin Blake row has a few less pics than originally intended (I bit off more than I could chew so dropped it down a few). You will need to use your imagination but my no. 1 son loves them (phew!).

The decapitated pheasant is politely waiting for it's head. Should arrive sometime soon.

The back is a mish mash of stitches - we like to use the term "abstract art".

And its very wrinkly - lucky we like that look ...um ... that was the effect I was kind of aiming for ....

SO, if I keep trucking along it may even make it to his bed before the end of winter...maybe...

In Awe .....

Today my littlest miss (who was an absolute legend and behaved so well throughout the entire adventure - got to love it when that happens) and I ventured into the Australasian Quilt Convention at the Royal Exhibition Building (Melb).

I was blown away by the quilts! OMG! (You may remember I'm very new to this whole quilt bizzo)

The detail, the designs, the teeny, tiny stitches!

Aaahh, so much to learn. Some were intricate pieces of art, they weren't quilts at all.

I took my camera, and forgot about it, but managed to take a pic of one that caught my eye.

It's beautiful and the photo's don't do it justice.

I would love to honour the person who has created this wonderful masterpiece but I didn't write it down or take a shot of the label. Sorry to the amazing, wonderful, nimble fingered goddess (I'm assuming it was a girlie) that created this beautiful piece. I love it and if you ever want to part with it I'll happily give it a home at my house!

It's show central here in Melb - off to Stitches and Craft show next week too, can't wait. Finger's crossed my little miss will be as cooperative then ....
